How long to leave tank dry to kill everything?

I had a RSM250 running for a few years. I had a couple of colonial hydroids show up on a zoanthid rock. I let them be thinking they would come and go like most things. I didn't know what they were. Well after about a year they had taken over everything along with vermetid snails! Every rock, the back wall, even the turbo snails!

So I've shut the tank down.

I have the rocks outside drying out. I imagine a few weeks in the sunshine and everything will dead and I can scrape and water blast them then re-cycle. It's such a shame as there was some pretty zoa's and polyps on them.

I've been scraping the tank and finding the back plastic grate hard to clean. Does anyone have any ideas how to clean this bit?

Also, how long should I leave the tank empty to make sure the hydroids are dead? I've got most scraped off but I'm sure some remnants are stuck in between the grate and it's holder.

I'm going to get the tank going again with softies. I've confessed this to my other half and I'm still allowed to sleep inside

Thanks!!!
