Hey everyone, just bought my first saltwater fish yesterday and hoping to learn a lot. Beginners tips welcome :) I hope to move up to a reef tank eventually but I intend to take my time.

Hello miffkins  And welcome to RS!

The best advice given would be to RESEARCH and know before you buy/do anything else. The more you know ahead of time the better off your tank, your wallet and your heart will be long term. Don't buy "Fixes" in a bottle is another good one.

Take some time to read through this section carefully:
Just starting out (SW Beginners)

with a strong emphasis on:

and the list goes on. Bookmark that thread and use it often.

Again WELCOME to RS!! :)

I got caught up in some tank creation threads already! Thanks for all the welcomes everyone :yup:

About my new tank:
It's a 55 gal (hand-me-down tank from my BF who just upgraded to a 125 gal FOWLR). I have a 36" T5 light with a 10K and a Actinic (is that enough info about it? Is that the right info? lol). I have two 75 gal. HOB Aquaclear Quietflow filters and two small (not sure of size, also hand-me-downs) powerheads.

I have 40 pounds of live sand and about...20? pounds of live rock and 16 pounds of dead (is that what you call it?) rock.

I have one Scopas tang, two 1" Ocellaris clowns and 1 (brand new yesterday!) bubble tip anemone. I'll post pictures as soon as I figure out how...

I think I've had it up and running for about 2.5 weeks now.
