Owner said it was a rabbitfish but I'm not sure what type

It does look like a Siganus species (rabbitfish). There are about 26-27 different ones. Try comparing to these few below, see what you think.
Siganus punctatissimus and more images
Siganus punctatus and more images
Siganus stellatus and more images
Siganus canaliculatus and more images
Siganus fuscescens and more images

Less likely, but if the belly is more striped then spotted, then maybe a Siganus javus and more images

So, your looks really brown, but I'm not sure if that is bad lighting or not. Take a good look at the color of the spots, color of body, how spots are arranged and fin structure and type to help make a positive ID.

I'm kinda leaning towards the first one I listed, but it all depends on how brown those spots are.
Can also count Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Analspines: 7; Analsoft rays: 9; Vertebrae: 13 to help make a positive ID on if it is a Siganus punctatissimus.
