I remember when starting off... thinking I may want to buy from my lfs (local fish store) needing support, what I ended up doing & found to be fine... was ordering online.

In the states... they all drop ship from Houston, TX (come in from the port)

imo online is fine, Red Sea warrantee is great and problem free & the online forum (RS) is your friend & much more valuable than info from your lfs.

Having hard time deciding between Reefer 450 and S650. I want to house at least 2 tangs in my aquarium. Would the reefer be fine?

Love my leds, but don't be afraid of 800 watts of T5's if interested - have you seen glennf sps tank all T5s - with great husbandry skills & 800 watts of T5s you can grow whatever you want

oh man. that's awesome.

I am also considering the maintenance cost between both reefer450 and max s650. Not sure if S650 would be significantly higher or both would be very close?

The 650 would be higher & one big thing to consider (at least for me) is the larger amount of volume in wc (water changes)

I would think the 450 with leds could be 1/2 the cost of running the 650, see what others think...

Got no response from StevesLEDs when i inquired about the LED fixture for Reefer 450.

I'm not familiar with Steve's options, but BRS just did 4 videos on the lighting options. You might want to watch the videos before you decide on your light. I'm also contemplating a reefer 450 (xl) and was geeking out on the lighting options this weekend :) When pricing out the reefer and what I originally wanted the lighting was as much as the tank, so its a big decision.

The entire BRS series is fantastic for setting up a new tank. Here is the first of 4 lighting episodes.

I'm wondering if 4 AI primes would do the tick for some SPS and a bunch of LPS. They are $200 each, so that is a lot less than other LED options. Adding a few t-5 (another $200 for a retrofit kit) would be a sweet light.

Sorry guys, crazy busy from the holiday sales. No ETA on that Reefer Fixture, no available hands at the moment to continue development. That, and it's not exactly easy to hire people off the street that know LEDs, so expanding is more difficult than it sounds, but we are definitely working on training up some new guys.

Having hard time deciding between Reefer 450 and S650. I want to house at least 2 tangs in my aquarium. Would the reefer be fine?

I would limit myself to one tang in a 450, and even a 650 would be pushing things to have more than one, but it would be doable. Tangs are big dirty fish that create a lot of waste. More than one would be asking for trouble, since they grow fast.
