I'm new to the saltwater hobby. On Sunday I set my biocube 14 up Sunday with lr and ls and have been testing all week. Ammonia, nitrate and nitrite have been non existent. I just got back from my lfs and he gave me 3 damsels to start the cycle. Is he blowing smoke? I've read damsels will start the cycle but is 3 too many? I've also had some diatom bloom starting. Any advice to keep me safe?

If I were in your shoes I would: 1) Take the damsels back 2) Pick up a raw deli shrimp. I have also heard the starting you cycle with fish. In my opinion that is just cruel to the fish, even if they are just damsels. Do not get me wrong, damsels are a good started fish. They just have a tendency to get very aggressive and are a pain in the.. Well you get the point.
