t5 lights

Hi - I'm a new member here and fairly new to saltwater aquaria in general (although I did have a saltwater tank about 20 years ago...things have clearly changed a lot since then and I'm on a big learning curve thanks you forums like this). Anyway - I just bought a second-hand RSM 250 system but...

I was thinking about adding reefbrite strips to the t5s but I wasn’t sure if they would be too close to the water in the stock hood. Or I could remove the hood and go led. Any advice would be great and if you did remove the hood what lights did you go with and do you like them?
