    reefrunner's new 20L nano

Well, this tank finally cycled, I put a couple of corals in around Labor Day and they died pretty quick, so the notion that is was done and there was something interfering with the testing kits was a wrong one. I thought it was done again a couple of months ago, and bought a damsel and put it in...

    Tank won't cycle

Still having this issue, according to my kits still has low level ammonia and nitrite and even with a very low bioload the nitrates continue to rise within a few days. For example I had nitrates down to about 30-40 last week (5 days ago) to 100-120 today. It occurred to me, that I live in an...

    Refugium photoperiod

Do you run your fuge lights 24/7, reverse daylight or same as tank lights and why. When I was previously active in the hobby most recommended a reverse daylight schedule, because caulerpa (macro the was used mostly) had a nasty habit of going ballistic on a 24/7 schedule, but there are more...

Tonight's numbers Salinity 35ppt Ammonia ~ .25 Nitrite >.25 but < .5 Nitrate 40 Ph 8.0 Did one more water change tonight, that should do it unless the nitrates go back up. Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner

    Tank won't cycle

I started the tank with VERY (like 8 years old) oceanic salt. Went to instant ocean, then went to red sea coral pro salt, now I am using reef crystals, which is most likely what I will stick with. Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner

    Tank won't cycle

I don't have a sump to run reactors in, is there a hang on the back or closed loop type? And what would that do for me? I run carbon in a filter cartridge (cleaned weekly). Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner

    Tank won't cycle

Lol, innocent bystander. My daughter and I almost always read them together and my wife usually chips in her opinion as well. The test will read 0, I've just never seen it with saltwater. The LFS said the ammonia was fine, they never said it was 0, and their nitrite test agreed with mine. I...

    Tank won't cycle

I realize it seems odd, but the RO/DI tests 0 ammonia, and after reading this article it doesn't seem odd that new salt water tests positive for ammonia. It may be much less than .25 but that's the lowest color on the chart. I have considered it might be the bucket I use to mix the water, but...

    Tank won't cycle

I changed approx. 13 - 14 gallons last night, cleaning the sand in the fuge and removed all the rock and cleaned the sand under and behind the rock. I went to the LFS today, took a water sample and the told me, ammonia was good, nitrites were elevated (they did not give numbers but I looked at...

If you retake that pic with the pumps off, where the reflection is sharp...it may just be unbeatable. It definitely awesome as is though. Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner

    Tank won't cycle

One thing I find curious is that even with these conditions, I have not had an algae outbreak, I have had a few days worth of diatoms, but with nitrates like that (and me running the actinics 12 hours per day) I would have expected some other issues, I have actually grown new coralline algae...

    Tank won't cycle

I have done 3 10 gallon water changes over the last three days (20 gallon tank). Ammonia is still at .5ppm, nitrite has gone down to .5 and nitrates are now about 180ppm which means after 3 50% water changes they started at 1440ppm. That's a lot of nitrate. My plan is to continue the water...

    Tank won't cycle

Thanks, I have not been posting the nitrite levels, because I've been waiting for ammonia to go to 0, but nitrites are approx 1ppm steady, no matter how much ammonia has been converted and nitrates are >100ppm. Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner
