Chillin like a villain

My emerald crab saying hello from under a coral. I was given this coral a few years back when somebody was moving but I'm not quite sure what kind of coral it is. Every once in awhile there are polyp extensions but they're very few and far between. Maybe you guys know what kind of coral this is?20180310_193715.jpg

Your pic only shows when you click on it.
Here's a screen shot.

Not good enough with corals to ID it. Sorry.

Thank you!

It's so rarely ever has polyp extension. I thought maybe you had something to do with the moon cycle but I debunked that theory. When polyps are out, they're so tiny that you have to do a double-take. That might be what you're talking about when you say fuzzy. I'm not sure what porties are though. I appreciate you giving me a heads up, if you can give me the proper name I'll look it up to see if it matches what I have.

For the most part porites are very common around the entire world.

Keep on top of your water changes weekly and the coral will start to show polyps more and even start growing. It may need some more light then what it is getting on the bottom of the tank. I'd slowly move the coral up, as in this week move the coral off the sand bed a few inches to a rock and then next week move the coral another couple of inches, and so on each week until the coral is in the middle or higher in the tank.

Thank you. I have taken your advice and started to move it higher in the water column and have performed my weekly water change. While my particular species may not the most beautiful, I love it and want it to do well. Thanks again.
