Shaun- this is going to drive me crazy. If I have to remove and disassemble this skimmer every few weeks I’m going to lose it. Just read your post - must have missed that one!
I have a fair amount of detritus- but am running the mesh socks continuously. I wonder if the NOPOX induced slime doesn’t contribute as well...any reoccurrence for you?

It’s only happened once since I installed the NYOS and so far no further issues. It’s no different to a pump getting dirty and needing a clean, as it’s just a pump.

I now change the socks every 3 days maximum to avoid the overspilling which leads to more rubbish in the sump. I run 225 micron mesh socks (and also a chunk of filter wool in left sump to help catch stuff). If you watch when you remove the socks you very often get chunks of detritus which then flow into the skimmer (on mine which is in the next chamber) and it makes it make bubble noises.

So despite the socks you still get a build up in the sump area which is why I now empty it with the Python when I do a water change and it keeps it clean. Well it will be even cleaner now I don’t work by torch light!

@Nobbygas has had the slime issue in the socks but I have only had a small amount of slime on the surface, nothing in the socks, but if you make the surface ‘ripple’ with something (I use the exit hose on the Rhowaphos reactor pointing to the surface) it’s stops the slime.

I've now got a small Eheim Compact 300 pump in the same section as the Marine Pure block (the big main section of the Sump). I have it pointing upwards so it creates water movement (to help the Block). It produces a sort of bubbling effect on the surface, but being a small pump it is not too much. It also stopped the slime from the NOPOX.
I also put Filter Floss into the socks to aid the filtration. I've only had to clean the NYOS once so far, but I'll probably do it again soon.
I did find that when I started using NOPOX it did tend to create a lot of muck/slime. However, as I decreased the dosage all of those problems disappeared, plus the use of the Eheim 300 pump in the Sump (good tip from Shaun).

I was just wondering were your installed your energy bar on the Apex as from the pictures you’ve still got the power centre in place and the Apex below it ?

Do you still use the power centre or is everything plugged into the Apex energy bar?

I added a panel on the right side of the power center against the inner divider wall. I mounted all my apex gear to it and slide it in. I have the new energy bar, an old eb8 and rest of the apex stuff on that panel. There wasn’t easy room for my third DOS so I built a stand for it (previous post I think ).

I have the lights and the recirc pumps on the power center since they are smart/don’t need control respectively. All other stuff is on the apex.

Update: lignite gac and gfo mix to form a kind of concrete. Won’t be doing that again. Converted the media filter to tumble gfo. Running the microsize brs rox .8 gac in a media bag.

Added a yellow clown goby and red fairy wrasse. It is much more visible than my sixline wrasse.

Phosphate.08. Coming down! Enjoying the tank and setting it up for simple maintenance which thus far has worked - I’m staying on top of things.

And my Neptune ddr continues to falsely read low on chamber 2 even after I sent it for repair. Frustrating. At least it is on my lowest consumption additive - Mg.

Lights at 80%.

Question for the max owners - any tips on removing the recirc pumps? At some point I want to soak them in vinegar. I wasn’t watching when they got installed so I’m hoping getting them out will not be too hard...

They are really easy to take out. The biggest problem will be untangling the cables.

It’s funny we should be talking about the rear pumps and yes the worst part is untangling the cables. They are easy to clean. I used citric acid (powder in water) but vinager probably the same.

I have literally just (last 5 minutes) ordered a 4 gang switchable extension lead (and for us here 4 x eu to U.K. plug adapters because the pumps are 2 pin and UK is 3 here). What I’m thinking of doing at next clean is to take out all 4 pump plugs and install the 4 gang into one socket in the power centre. I’m then going to Velcro the 4 gang to maybe the right side of the tank at the back out of the way and the plug the pumps in there. This then means all the wires are separated from the main tangle and will be very easy to unplug for cleaning more regularly.

Ha! I hadn’t thought of the fact they are all in the power center. It’s going to be a hassle.

Is there a union connection where the pump output connects to the wall/jet? I’d investigate by my screen top pins the back cover down so it will be a process to get everything open.

Might be a union connection but you just unscrew the ‘nut’ at the back of the wall/jet and take it out. In the meantime you need to untangle it from the mass of wires. Hence next time I do it I’m gonna make it easier with the 4 gang!

It’s actually not to bad. I waited until one of the pumps jammed and then took it out, and then took the other 3 out as well and not to much hassle at all really. It’s just that there are easier ways to plug them in! I’m thinking back of right hand side of tank, on Velcro 4 gang, out of the way of all the other wires and then the time after will be simples.

Phosphates down to .05. Added a two little fishies feeding ring that I love. Works great w the Neptune afs. It’s keeping food from going over the falls. Mounts inside the back chamber.

Still waiting on my new ddr to fix my low level sensor, and another co2 scrubber chamber to increase scrubbing performance / efficiency (maybe both!).

Ordered 12 chromis. Should coming in in a few weeks.

All is well this week!

Ok now running the dual chamber co2 scrubber. It lives behind the tank.

And got my new ddr to replace the broken one. Thanks Neptune. Back in business!

It looks like part of an RO unit? What’s it for then ?

Pardon the now corrected typo. It is a co2 scrubber. It removes co2 from the air going to my skimmer, which raises the pH of my airtight and co2 ridden domicile. Media gets changed about every two = four weeks.

Tank seems to be doing well still trying to keep alk up at 11.5 per Red Sea.
Getting a bit of aggression from my male anthias towards -the newly transitioned second male anthias. Will be trying to get a few more females to spread attention on wed if I can find them.

Also was working on my dosing lines (a bit of OCD).

Converted from flex tubing (messy) to poly. I think it looks more sinister!

Amazing what we do in this hobby. My 12 year old always comments that I’m making something nefarious when doing water tests!

I’ve just had to google what nefarious means so I must be a bit thick! Lol

Nice dosing lines by the way. Very neat and organised
