Hi all! saltwater noob here...

I'm starting my first marine tank..and had everything but a protein skimmer ..until today..my neighbor was having a garage sale and his son left an old reef octopus skimmer behind...well its missing some pieces..pump etc...also their is a hairline crack..which is fixable...for 20$ will this thing be worth it?..cause I thought it would be cheaper in the long run to DIY and restore it than spend 200$..let me know of things to check out any help will be appreciated!

Restoring an old skimmer can be tricky, and sometimes frustrating. However for $20 it's worth a shot,. If nothing else it will be an educational experience, even if you never get it to work properly.
so did some digging her son must have been misinformed, its a coralife super skimmer 125..problem is the pump has no info /stats..any ideas of a cheaper alternative than buying an 80$ new replacement from coralife?..which defeats the purpose lol
