Red Sea Max 250

Set up our tank about 2 months ago and going great so far. Clean up Crew took care of the algae and water specs are spot on. Corals are doing well, added two clown fish, Yellow Diamond Goby, Wrasse and want to add a yellow tang. Not sure a 65 gallon tank is large enough for a yellow tang - thoughts?

A 65 gal tank would be a bit marginal for a yellow tang. I wouldn't call it totally impossible, but it would be pushing things a bit. Of the tangs you generally see in the aquarium trade, a yellow tang has about the lowest space requirements. Keep in mind that tangs are big, dirty fist that create a lot of waste. Be sure your filtration and skimming is up to all this.

Rather than the tang, consider one of the dwarf angels. Both the Lemonpeel and yellow angels are almost all yellow, and would tend to give the same visual effect. The bicolor angel also has a lot of yellow on it.

There are a number of people here that have yellow tangs in a Red Sea 250 and they seem to be doing well for a long time.

Tangs can be a sensitive subject igniting strong opinions. Some people don’t think we should keep them in our aquariums at all.

Standard advice for a yellow tang is probably more like 100 gallons, but read up on it and make your own decision. It’s your tank.
